The Sans Souci Palace was the royal residence of King Henri I (better known as Henri Christophe of Haiti. After the independence, Haiti split into two. Henri Christophe embarked on construction of his palace in 1810 and a year later declared himself king in northern Haiti. His sweetheart became Queen Marie-Louise. It was the most important of nine palaces built by the king, as well as fifteen châteaux, numerous forts, and sprawling summer homes on his twenty plantations. The palace was destroyed by a severe earthquake in 1842. And before its destruction, it was acknowledged by many to be the Caribbean equivalent of the Palace of Versailles in France. In 1982 it was designated a UNESCO world heritage site and with the fortification of Ramiers. Sans Souci Palace, with its Baroque staircase and classical terraces, stands as magnificent remains of a once splendid palace. Recognized for its immense gardens, the palace grounds are reminiscent of the stepped gardens of Potsdam and Vienna. Attention should also be given to its masterfully planned system of waterworks and artificial springs. The canals and basins throughout the gardens are inspired by the Grand Canal of Versailles. Situated at the base of a spectacular mountain range, Sans Souci Palace is near the access road to the Citadel and close to the village of Milot. Sightseers usually feel its splendor while they are drawn to the Palace’s grand facade, sweeping staircases and monumental prominence of this aging, yet graceful building. The walls have been burnished by weather and time, revealing a multitude of colors on the rocky surfaces, and leaving a watercolor impression of this royal residence.
Will I get back to the ship on time?
Yes. Although the cruise lines would like you to believe that independent tours carry this risk, we are well aware of your ship’s departure time, and our tours are designed to get you back to the ship with time to spare.

How do I receive my booking confirmation and voucher?
Shortly after you reserve a tour, we will e-mail your confirmation which will include your tour vouchers as well as instructions on how and when to meet up with your guide for each tour.
When should I reserve my shore excursion?
Because some tours book up well in advance of the tour departure date, we recommend reserving your excursions as far in advance as possible.
Where do I go to start my tour?
Your booking confirmation will contain clear instructions on where and when to go to start each of your tours. It will also include instructions on what to do in the very unlikely event that you encounter difficulties in meeting up with your guide.
What is your cancellation policy?
With very few exceptions, you can cancel a tour up to 7 days in advance of tour departure and receive a full refund. The few exceptions to this rule are clearly noted in the tour description. If you would like to cancel a tour, simply email us, and we will be happy to assist you. Once you are within the 7 day tour departure window, the tour becomes non-refundable. This is because our operators have set aside space to accommodate your request and will often not be able to fill that space with another customer so close to departure.
What currency are the excursion prices shown in?
All prices are in US Dollars.
Will you refund my money if I miss my tour because the ship is late or cannot make it into port?
Yes. You will receive a full refund for your tour if you cannot make a tour departure due to a ship delay or a missed port call. You will of course also receive a full refund if weather or an equipment problem prevents the tour operator from delivering the tour. Simply let us know within two weeks of date of the tour, and we will issue a full refund.
Am I expected to tip the Guide/Driver?
Tipping is not encouraged and therefore it is not advisable.
How do I make changes to my tour reservations?
If you need to make changes to your reservation or to cancel a tour, just email us for immediate response.
Are children’s prices available?
Yes. Many of our tours offer children’s prices for children under the age of 12 years.
Are there any age restrictions on tours?
For most tours, there is no minimum age for children as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
May I take more than one tour in a single port of call? You can always additional sites or activities to your existing itinerary as long as you have a group of 6 participants of more.
